2022 Tel Shimron Excavation Volunteers

The 2022 season may be over, but the effects of this exciting dig are still being felt. We thought we’d share some of the comments left anonymously on our Post-Dig Survey by some of our participants.

“The hands on aspects of the program were very important to me. I was able to take the material we were learning in classes and apply it to the context of what we were doing in the field, and I very much enjoyed the work in the field. I think being able to learn in a more relaxed, casual way helped me learn more and connect more with my actual experiences.”

“I was able to build a personal connection to the Bible and God.”

“The ability to learn hands-on in an archaeological excavation is an opportunity like no other. We learned specialized skills of archaeology, as well as general knowledge gained by virtue of the many different disciplines represented on the dig.”

“Everything was designed to be a learning opportunity. We learned so much!”

“The program academically challenged me, as it required a new form of hands-on research that was both exciting and challenging.”

“Overall the program was wonderful. I learned a lot and experienced a lot. The field trips and church visits were especially nice, as they gave me a chance to take a break from the physical work and learn in a different way. I also feel like the program facilitated bonding among the group members.”

“Being surrounded by professionals in the field of archaeology created a great learning environment that involved different perspectives and expertise.”

“I would recommend the program to others who are interested in history or cultural immersion.”

“The location allowed us to witness, firsthand, the things we were learning about, culturally and historically.”

“It was amazing.”
