It educated me on what it means to be a field archaeologist. It also made me aware of the work that goes into the excavating before anything is put into a museum.

Past Seasons

Our Progress

Summer 2023: Fifth Field Season

Our team of world-renowned experts unearthed a rare and exquisitely preserved vaulted passageway dating back 3,800 years.

Summer 2022: Fourth Field Season

We excavated in the Middle Bronze and Roman phases uncovering abundance whole pottery vessels, a grain mill and bread ovens, and a large but enigmatic structure. We expect to learn more in 2023.

Summer 2020: Third Field Season

Summer 2019: Second Field Season

Summer 2017: First Field Season

Summer 2016: Geophysical Survey

We conducted a site-wide reconnaissance survey using traditional pedestrian survey and ground-based geophysical methods in order to determine the general periodization of the site as well as the potential layout of any near sub-surface architecture. It serves as both an extension and re-evaluation of the 1982 survey of the Yuval Portugali and Avner Raban.

Most Tel Shimron staff were directing the final season of the Leon Levy Expedition to Ashkelon.
