A word from one of our participants…
“Having visited Israel in the past, I was fascinated by all the history that has been learned through archaeology. I became curious about whether I might be able to contribute to that body of knowledge. I searched the internet for safe, legitimate excavations that were endorsed by the Israeli government; that’s how I found Tel Shimron Excavations. Since I had no digging experience, but a great respect for the work being done, I became interested in the one-week Tel Shimron Experience. I figured volunteering for one week was enough time to see if I were any good at digging, but not so long that I would be a hindrance if I were terrible at it. Also, one week allowed me to tack on a week of sightseeing afterwards without being away from my family for too long. I appreciated that I could complete the registration online and found the fee very reasonable. I also appreciated that most everyone was so eager to introduce themselves and get to know me.
Even though I wasn’t sure I had anything to offer, I felt readily accepted and appreciated which helped me to feel comfortable and eager to contribute to the team! I was very grateful and amazed at how I was encouraged to dig side-by-side with experts and to learn as I worked which for me was a priceless and efficient way to gain confidence and knowledge. I felt valued from the get-go, even before I appreciated what I was able to contribute.
The Tel Shimron Experience offers a great opportunity to work hard, learn a lot, and to make new friends while doing so. Sign up, you won’t regret it!”
