Updates from the excavation season

We just finished up the week and have only one week of archaeological excavation left to go! After next week, we’ll spend a few days shutting down the excavation and making sure everything is in good order before we all say goodbye to the tel and fly home.

Every grid has made tremendous progress and in some areas achieved incredible depths! The team is small this season, but energetic and enthusiastic about the work. Tel Shimron has constantly surprised and challenged the staff to interpret the remains. We are all so excited and grateful to be doing this work. Everyone is energized to push through the final week of excavation to tease out every bit of history that we can get from the dirt.

Grid 92 has unearthed Middle Bronze Age remains, including some beautiful whole vessels (see TikTok for excavation video, or Instagram for images). Grid 23/24 continues to reveal more of the Roman village; while Grid 33 has expanded the plan of the monumental mudbrick walls at the top of the mound.

We are already excited to continue the work during summer 2022!
